Gerður Kristný is a prolific writer and one of Iceland’s most beloved authors. She has published books in various literary genres; children’s books, novels, short stories and journalism, to name but a few. Her works can be counted by the dozens. She is best known for her books of poetry. Gerður has won various awards, including the Icelandic Journalists’ Award for Myndin af pabba – Saga Thelmu, and in 2020 she received the Jónas Hallgrímsson Award, which is given to those who have enriched the Icelandic language in a special way. Gerður Kristný was nominated for the Icelandic Literature Prize for the poetry books Höggstaður and Sálumessa, and won the prize for Blóðhófnir, which was also nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize.
