Patrik Svensson is a Swedish journalist and author of one of the most interesting books of recent years in Sweden, if not worldwide, Ålevangeliet, (The Gospel of the Eels). The story of the world’s most bizarre fish won the Augustpriset, Swedens main literary prize and has been published in more than 30 languages.
Ålevangeliet is on the one hand a scientific book about eels, their life cycle, habitat and all the questions that surround this mysterious animal that is feared to be in danger of extinction due to changes in the marine environment. On the other hand, the book is a memoir and tells of a beautiful relationship between the father and son, the author himself and his father, a common interest in eels and eel hunting and finally the end of his father’s life.
