Lilja Alfreðsdóttir, Minister of Culture and Business Affairs, opens the festival and Australian writer Hannah Kent delivers the opening address, discussing the relevance of Icelandic stories globally. Hannah was an exchange student in Iceland as a teenager, which inspired her to write her book, Burial Rites, a heart wrenching re-telling of the execution of Agnes and Friðrik. Langi Seli og Skuggarnir perform music.
