Benný Sif Ísleifsdóttir has both BA and MA degrees in ethnology and a diploma in applied Icelandic from the University of Iceland. She made quite a splash on the Icelandic literary scene and has made her mark there in just a few years. Benný received the Center for Icelandic Literature’s 2018 New Voices Grant for the script for the novel Gríma, which was published the same year. Gríma attracted some attention, was well received among readers and won the Icelandic audiobook award, Storytel Awards. Her next novel Daughters came shortly after, in 2020, and was praised by critics and nominated for the European Literature Prize and the continuation of Daughters, Gratiana, was published in 2022 to a great critical acclaim. Her novels are stories of the fates of people from Icelandic reality, the author smoothly weaves together the sorrows and triumphs of the characters, and the reader can’t help but get carried away in their stories.
