Founded in 1708, Stock is one of the oldest publishing houses in France and has been part of the Hachette Group since 1961.

Its foreign fiction list, LA COSMOPOLITE, which celebrated its 100th anniversary last year, includes great authors from Carson McCullers to Paolo Cognetti, from Karen Blixen to Maria Stepanova, from Sigrid Undset to Rachel Kushner.

On the non-fiction side, the list is quite eclectic from philosophy (Louis Althusser) to thought-provoking investigation (Garance Le Caisne), political memoirs (François Holland and Bernard Cazeneuve) and health (Michel Cymes).

Lastly,  since 2018, Stock publishes an original series called “My night in a museum” where writers of outstanding literary quality (Leila Slimani, Lola Lafon, Andrea Marcolongo, Christophe Boltanski, Lydie Salvaire) spend a night in a museum before writing a personal and original account of this singular experience.
