Erika Fatland is a Norwegian anthropologist who enjoys great popularity for her non-fiction works. She has written seven books that have won numerous awards and have been translated into more than twenty languages. She first gained attention in 2015 with the book Sovetistan, where she recounts her travels through the former Soviet republics that have the suffix -stan. In her 2021 book The Border, she describes her travels around Russia, visiting all the countries that share a border with Russia. In Heights, she tells the stories of people and communities in the Himalayan mountains. Her latest book, The Navigators, is a travelogue about the countries that were once part of the fallen Portuguese empire. Erika Fatland is among the most popular non-fiction authors in Norway.
