Brynja Hj\u00e1lmsd\u00f3ttir is a poet and author from Iceland.<\/p>\n

She is the 2022 recipient of the Lj\u00f3\u00f0stafur J\u00f3ns \u00far V\u00f6r poetry prize, and of the Vigd\u00eds Finnbogad\u00f3ttir Encouragement Award. Her most recent book is the novel Fri\u00f0semd<\/em><\/a>, a mysterious apocalypse comedy. The book came out in the fall of 2024 and was a critical success.<\/p>\n

Okfruman<\/em> (The Zygote), Brynja’s first book of poetry, was published by Una \u00fatg\u00e1fuh\u00fas<\/a> in 2019. The piece received excellent critical response and was described by one reviewer as: \u201cOne of the most interesting poety books of the year [\u2026] You rarely come across such a strong debut\u201d. Okfruman<\/em>\u00a0was nominated for The Icelandic Women\u2019s Literary Award (Fj\u00f6ruver\u00f0launin<\/a>) and was awarded Poetry Book of the Year by The Icelandic Bookseller\u2019s Choice Awards.<\/p>\n
