Jan Grue was born in 1981 in Oslo. He holds a PhD in Linguistics and is Professor of Qualitative Research at the University of Oslo. He is the author of a wide-ranging body of work in fiction, non- fiction, and children\u2019s literature. He made his debut with the short story collection <\/span>Everything Under Control<\/span><\/i> (2010), which was received with glowing reviews: \u201cGrue is bright, he\u2019s funny, academic and poetic, restless and patient, creative, analytical and sensitive. He has a broad repertoire and moves elegantly between different writing styles,\u201d wrote the reviewer in <\/span>Adresseavisen<\/span><\/i>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He has since published a further four short story collections, the\u00a0 latest of which is <\/span>Vexations<\/span><\/i> (2019). His first novel, <\/span>The Best of All Possible Worlds<\/span><\/i>, came out in 2016. Among Grue\u2019s works for children is <\/span>Oliver<\/span><\/i> (2012), a fantastical story about living wheelchairs. His academic books include <\/span>Body Language<\/span><\/i>, on the subject of the representations of disability in a cultural and socio-analytical perspective, and <\/span>Theory in Practice<\/span><\/i>, a primer on critical analysis.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

His book of autobiographical non-fiction, <\/span>I Live a Life Like Yours<\/span><\/i>, was published in 2018. \u201cThe book will, in all likelihood, linger as a mile stone signifying that a new maturity is reaching autobiographical literature in Norwegian non-fiction,\u201d wrote <\/span>Morgenbladet<\/span><\/i>\u2019s Ane Farseth\u00e5s. <\/span>Dagbladet<\/span><\/i>\u2019s reviewer called the book \u201ca literary masterpiece that I recommend in the strongest terms!\u201d, giving the book five stars. The book went on to win the Literary Critics\u2019 Award and has been nominated to the Nordic Council\u2019s Literature Prize \u2013 as the first Norwegian non-fiction book in 50 years. In 2021, Grue published a new book in the same genre, <\/span>If I Fall. <\/span><\/i>The book was awarded the P.O. Enquist Prize.<\/span><\/p>\n
