Gon\u00e7alo M. Tavares was born in Luanda, Angola in 1970 and teaches Theory of Science in Lisbon. Nobel Laureate Jos\u00e9 Saramago stated: <\/span>In thirty years\u2019 time, if not before, Tavares will win the Nobel Prize, and I\u2019m sure my prediction will come true\u2026<\/span><\/i> Tavares has no right to be writing so well at the age of 35. One feels like punching him.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n


\n<\/span>Tavares has surprised his readers with the variety of books he has published since 2001 and has been awarded an impressive amount of national and international literary prizes in an extremely short amount of time. In 2005 he won the <\/span>Jos\u00e9 Saramago Prize<\/span><\/i> for young writers under 35. In his speech at the award ceremony, Saramago commented<\/span>: JERUSAL\u00c9M<\/span><\/i> is a great book, and truly deserves a place among the great works of Western literature. <\/span>JERUSAL\u00c9M <\/span><\/i>was also awarded the <\/span>Pr\u00eamio Portugal Telecom de Literatura em L\u00edngua Portuguesa 2007 <\/span><\/i>and the<\/span> LER\/Millenium Prize.<\/span><\/i> His novel <\/span>LEARNING TO PRAY IN THE AGE OF TECHNOLOGY<\/span><\/i> has received the prestigious <\/span>Prize of the Best Foreign Book 2010<\/span><\/i> in France. This award has so far been given to authors like Salmon Rushdie, Elias Canetti, Robert Musil, Orhan Pamuk, John Updike, Philip Roth, Gabriel Garc\u00eda M\u00e1rquez and Colm T\u00f3ib\u00edn. <\/span>LEARNING TO PRAY<\/span><\/i> was also shortlisted for the renowned French literary awards<\/span> Femina \u00c9tranger Prize<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>M\u00e9dicis Prize<\/span><\/i> and won the <\/span>Special Price of the Jury<\/span><\/i> of the <\/span>Grand Prix Litt\u00e9raire du Web Cultura 2010<\/span><\/i>. In 2011, Tavares received the renowned <\/span>Grande Pr\u00eamio da Associa\u00e7\u00e3o Portuguesa de Escritores<\/span><\/i>, as well as the prestigious <\/span>Pr\u00e9mio Liter\u00e1rio Fernando Namora <\/span><\/i>2011. The author was also nominated for the renowned Dutch<\/span> Europese Literatuurprijs 2013 <\/span><\/i>and was on the Longlist of the <\/span>Best Translated Book Award Fiction<\/span><\/i> 2013. He was also nominated for the International IMPAC Dublin award 2013 and, most recently, for the <\/span>Prix Jean-Monnet de Litt\u00e9rature Europ\u00e9enne 2015<\/span><\/i>. <\/span>MATTEO LOST HIS JOB<\/span><\/i> is among the five shortlisted authors for the prestigious <\/span>Prix Femina <\/span><\/i>2016 foreign fiction.<\/span><\/p>\n
