\u00c5sne Seierstad is an award-winning Norwegian freelance journalist and writer, best known for her accounts of everyday life in war zones. Her notable works include <\/span>The Bookseller of Kabul<\/span><\/i>, her second, bestselling book, which is an account of the time she spent living with an <\/span>Afghan<\/span> family in Kabul after <\/span>the fall of the Taliban<\/span> in 2001 and <\/span>One of Us<\/span><\/i>: The Story of Anders Breivik and the Massacre in Norway<\/span><\/i> (2015),<\/span> which is the basis for the Netflix drama <\/span>22 July<\/span><\/i>. <\/span>The Bookseller of Kabul<\/span><\/i> was shortlisted for the first Richard & Judy Best Read of the Year Award 2004.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As a journalist, \u00c5sne reported from Russia and China for <\/span>Arbeiderbladet<\/span><\/i> from 1993 to 1997. From 1998 until 2000 she worked for the national public broadcaster <\/span>NRK<\/span> where she reported from the <\/span>Serbian<\/span> breakaway province of <\/span>Kosovo<\/span>. <\/span>With Their Backs to The World: Portraits of Serbia<\/span><\/i>, her first book, is an account of this time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Her other books include <\/span>One Hundred And One Days: A Baghdad Journal<\/span><\/i> which describes the three months she spent in Iraq in the build-up to the <\/span>U.S.-led invasion<\/span> in 2003 and <\/span>Angel of Grozny: Inside Chechnya<\/span><\/i>, an account of the time she spent in Chechnya after the war, and <\/span>The Afghans<\/span><\/i>, published in 2022.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
